handle cracks

I've noticed that, periodically, items on the DOTD are listed as having small cracks in the handle. I have a Bonecutter coming in with this description, and (not having found much info on this) am wondering, what is the preferred method of treating this in a horn handle (short of replacing it). I do recall references to super glue being used, but can't find them again.
Suggestions?

Superglue (CA) is thin and works well for filling small cracks. For larger cracks you might want epoxy. I would apply the superglue a few times because it will probably seep in a bit. Apply it, clean off any that didn't go in the crack, wait until it dries and add more. The last time I used superglue on a crack was for the wood handle on a Spyderco Bushcraft. I bought the Gorilla brand because it has rubber added which supposedly makes it more resistant to cracking.

Hi Cop911,

I 've used super glue and so far it's been fine.
The cracks on the handle could be the weather or the stress point.
No worry. Super Glue and cracks are nemesis.

You should also soak them in mineral oil or Boiled Linseed Oil to condition the horn.

cop911, you might try treating the horn with PURE Neetfoot Oil (no petroleum products added), Hooflex or some other hoof treatment for horses (a little smelly) or a lotion that is high in lanolin to put oils back into the horn and see if it swell back at all. After that you can attend to what remains with either Super Glue or a slow cure epoxy. Once repaired the horn handles are fine, maybe a little annual treatment or more if you're in an extremely low humidity area.

Most of the time my father, pala fix the hairline carck with super glue fill.
Keep me up date
Good luck
