Handle details of a regular Sebenza?

I've got two large regular Sebenzas in my collection and upon closer inspection I noticed one of them having grooves on the outer rim of the handle whereas the other doesn't have them.
Is there any reason for this or was it simply a change in the design?
Do the grooves resemble a certain production period?
Or is it possible that the one is featured on BG-42 and the other on S30V knives?

Best way to tell BG-42 vs. S30V is inspecting the blade itself.

The grooves are a feature on older Regulars that was removed later.
 
Like Josh K stated, take them apart and see if the blade has a stamp on it. The S30V blades are stamped with a “S”
The BG42 and ATS blades didn’t have a stamp mark. Some of the early BG42 knives didn’t have slab stamps.

Can the time during which the grooves were added be specified? Or were they featured from the start on the Regulars and simply left away at some point?

Well, I’ve got two regulars like yours. One is a CCG and has the groove milling. It’s stamped 03 on the slabs. The other is a plain without the groove milling. It’s stamped 05 on the slabs.
Somewhere in that time frame they stopped putting the grooves on the edge of the slabs. Both have S30V steel
