Handle Eye Dimensions - House & Tennessee Hickory?

Hello,

I have a vintage Plumb 3_2 Jersey pattern that I am trying to find a handle for. The eye cross section measures about 7/8" x 2 1/2". So far I have ruled out several sources due to incorrect (too small) cross section dimensions. It looks like House & Tennessee has 13/16" x 2 7/16" cross sections. Is that close enough or too loose?

However, it looks like the bigger issue may be the length of the eye section. Being a jersey pattern requires a longer eye section due to the lower "jersey" extensions on the head. The head measures 4" at the eye section so I would need a handle with an eye section at least this long.

So do any of you know the actual eye length on the standard handles available from either House or Tennessee? So far I have gotten conflicting info from House and nothing yet from Tennessee.

I hope that everyone has safe and happy holidays!

Thanks,
Steve

The tongue on most axe handles is longer than needed to start off with, and with the huge shoulder that comes on them from the factory you can lengthen it significantly, as well, if you really have to. In a worst case scenario it's possible to use a bit of Titebond III to splice on a little extra wood to fill out the eye.
