Just got these two in, both in black paper micarta, one double-cut, one tanker. Can you tell me the difference in the styles of handle fasteners? At first I thought the holes in the micarta were just different diameters on the two knives, causing the tubes to flare out more on one than the other. But the tube diameters appear different, also.

I like the small-diameter holes in the micarta, because the edges of the holes are less noticeable/abrasive on my fingertips than the wider hole openings, so was wondering if I could specify the smaller holes/fasteners when ordering? PM'd you a while back, but I've heard your inbox stays pretty well loaded, so thought I'd post here.

Thanks!
Will

I wonder if one is combat grade and the one on the satin or double cut knife is presentation "custom" grade??

Looks like the smaller one just didnt get as deep of a countersink on the handle as the larger spread. The depth of the counter sink affects how far the tube can flare out.

Not sure why but my pm box does not have any Pm from you Will. But it did say I needed to empty some stuff out so maybe it just wouldnt let any more in. Guess i should start deleting stuff after i respond.

I will be glad to hear what Garth has to say on this as I have noticed this also on different Busse models.

Another thing I would be interested in knowing is why some of the fasteners seem to have a dull sandblasted type finish ( which I prefer ) while others seem to have a much brighter finish... almost like they have been polished for a better lack of words.

Only speculating here but could be that if the same die/tool is being used to flare both tubes. They would get flared to the same point but the wider ones would take on less of the flare since they are, well, wider. Wonder if that makes any sense??

Generally if a knife is double cut we blast over the tubes as well. Otherwise we leave them untouched.
