Handle finish toughness?

Hey there! Im working on a knife handle right now and need a little advice. The material is Stabilized Redwood burl, its in a slab configuration. My current plan for finishing is to sand the handle to 12,000 grit and coat it with teak oil until it wont take anymore. Then I was going to to apply paste wax and hand buff a few times.

Do you think this would yield a finish sufficiently tough enough to be used often? Ive done this to other woods and it looks and feels great but this knife will end up a user and im worried it might not be up to snuff.

Any input is very welcome, this is my first knife handling and i really want it to go well!:D

You could use a marine grade finish instead of a wax finish on teak oil.

If it is stabilized, it will need no other finish than a wax and buff after finishing to 12000. The resins used in the stabilization process will polish up like glass.
