Any one have a handle fluting layout jig they arn't using I could buy/borrow?
Any plans on making one of these, or ideas on fluting a handle would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Mace I have one you can use but for not much more than shipping both ways you can own one from pop's knife supply. alternately if you have a lathe you can use it to lay out your flutes. I can run you through it if you like.

There is another way.(and it's relatively free)

Cutout a right angled triangle from a thick piece of paper, cereal box etc...

Wrap it around your cylindrical handle material.

Tape it in place so it slip fits around the handle.

Use a prick punch, awl, pin.. to poke through the cardboard and into the handle material at the edge of the spiral.

Index the tube around the handle and do each flute line in turn.

(have a look at a toilet paper roll, or paper towel tube for the general idea.)

You can vary the spiral by changing the shape of the triangle.

I used to make 2 discs slightly smaller than my end diameter, evenly space holes around the rim, run string between the holes, twist them, tighten the string uniformly and trace the string

Mace, I would suggest just making one of the fluting jigs. It took me about 45 minutes to make mine and it works fine. Basically the same as Joes, the wood even looks the same. Just about 12 inches of 1/4-20 all thread and four 1/4-20 nuts, then some scrap wood and presto. Daggers are fun aren't they.

OR, do what Sean McIntire did and go with a straight fluted handle that bulges in the middle.
