Anyone direct me to where I can find a handle for an Iltis oxhead felling axe? I have one in very good shape I would like to refinish and put to use.

I've had good luck with House Handle Company and Tennessee Hickory Handle Company.

Traditionalwoodworker has this to say about an axe handle they sell as a replacement for the Iltis Felling Axe:

"This handle is suitable for most if not all Single Bit Axes requiring a handle to fit a 2-1/2 lb - 5 lb axe head with a standard Single Bit Eye. The shape of the eye is an asymmetrical oval (one side is thicker than the other). The approximate eye measurements are 2-3/8" wide and 13/16" thick. This is also the recommended replacement handle for the Oxhead 35" Single Bit Felling Axe. The handle is made from Top Grade All White Genuine American Hickory with a light wax finish. The handle comes with a wooden wedge. Overall handle length is 35" - 36". Made in USA."

Looks like a normal single bit axe handle.

Thanks for the info, I found one today at a local farmers market for $9 and the grain is even decent. I will post pics in a new thread of the axe brought back from a pile of rust.
