handle gap fix?

I have a nice custom fixed-blade knife with a very slight blemish.
On one side of the handle, the scales have lifted slightly from the tang. Not much, just enough to slip a piece of paper in about 1/8".
A couple questions for those of you more experienced than I:
- is this acceptable fit & finish for a custom, fairly expensive knife?
- is it something I can fix myself? - or should it be returned to the maker?

Perhaps I'm just too fussy... I really like the knife otherwise.

I think returning it to the Maker is the way to go. I have a horn handled custom that I will be taking back to the Maker to see if they can help me with a similar situation.

What is the handle material? How old is the knife? And has it been left in the elements or run through a dishwasher or anything similar to this?

Although it sure isn't what anyone ever wants to happen, when using natural materials they do tend to move occasionally. "High end knife" is a somewhat subjective term so it's tough to give a suggestion on what to do.

Can you post a picture of the knife and the problem? It's possible that a couple of drops of thin CA glue in the gap may solve the problem. If it were a knife that I had made I would want the buyer to contact me and allow me to either offer suggestions or give me the chance to correct the issue if possible.

If you get a chance post up some pictures. Now you have me curious.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
The knife is new, never used, not mistreated...
I will not post photos or identify it in any way, but will take your advice & contact the maker.
cheers,
