So I am planning on making some G10 scales for my bk2, they are going to be black and OD green with orange liners. My main question is for those of you who have made your own scales, what is a good way to get the hole the shape of the nut. So far my only idea is either make the hole round and try and fit something in the hole to hold the nut while I tighten it down, or try and free-hand it with a dremel. Any ideas or help would be great.

If you are going to leave them on you could use corby bolts. Then all you have to do is drill holes and grind off the ends. That's what I have planned for my BK7.

Otherwise use a dremel tool. You can pick one up at HF for cheap.

Well I'm by no means an expert in these things, but here's my thought.

What if you were to drill the hole slightly smaller than needed, the use the tip of a small chisel to notch the corners? I've not worked with G10 before, so I don't know if a chisel would be capable enough to make clean cuts.

that's a good idea, but I'm not sure if it would work of g10. I think I might just leave the holes round and slide a small flathead screw driver in to hold the nut in place while I crank er down.

I'd mark corners and chisel out a bit of relief before I cranked down.

A chisel can make the cuts in the G10....make sure it's sharp and taker your time. No need to kill a slab just before finishing it.

Somewhere around here* there is a tutorial of a guy that heats the nuts up, then screws them down so that they melt in the angles of the nut itself so it end up being a perfect fit. Can't remember where it is though.

*(By "here" I mean roughly this section of the internet, although honestly it could be anywhere.)

How about a capacitive nut? I'm not sure if linking a store is ok, but there's a hardware megastore online that I get a lot of my small hardware from that has them. The knurled one's could be perfect, because they would bit into the drilled hold a provide their own friction for tightening it down.

No you are right I remember reading that in here in the becker sub form as well. iirc the guy said he world heat up the nut while it was on a bolt that he put in his drill press. Then he would just kind of stamp down. If I find the post I'll link it.
