I'm a fan of micarta because it feels a bit more organic than G-10 while still having the strength of a phenolic. I also prefer the fibrous quality of micarta versus the more "plasticky" feel of G-10. Wood is nice, but I would rather have a handle material I KNOW I can beat on if I need to. On top of that, the phenolics wash off really easily, whereas wood can be stained by different substances.
I have not tried Res C, though I've heard good things about it. It just does not have the aesthetic appeal of Micarta, G-10 or wood, and while I want good, quality knives, I also like them for their aesthetics.

Does one absorb shock more than another? Or is that subjective?
G-10 hands down!!! I prefer the feel over all the rest, and when my hands sweat they stick to the G-10, I have had Micarta slip to much. Res C is only on the beaters, don't care for it. All of the Res C hilts are to small in my opinion. This is IMHO, but keep in mind of were I live gents, we were gloves much of the year anyway. That leads me back to a hilt big enough that I can hold on to.
My preference is... Hand shaped Canvas Micarta or Linen Micarta wih a pattern cut. Both feel most comfortable in my hand... and the linen with a pattern cut looks great, especially as it ages with use.
I do like G-10 for more of a wet work knife... and they do "pop" when it comes to colors. But with the Busse machine cut, I find it needs a light sanding to knock the sharp edges off.

Soooo, Foo. What pop do you get in black G-10 when it's covered in human blood? LOL
I'm a Res-C fan. Canvas micarta next.
