What is the handle length of:

18" Sirupati
20" Sirupati
18" Chitlangi
21" Chitlangi

Also which kukri has the longest handle?

Thanks all

Dayumifiknow. Make Bill answer that one.

Actually as was remarked ealier, the 18" WW2 ought to have an inch longer blade and a half inch longer handle than the 16.5". Seems more like it's got an inch longer handle and half inch longer blade on the ones I've seen. I can hold the 18" choked up, in the normal fashion, or at the very back to get increased tip speed. But as I pointed out Saturday, Pala and I are pretty close in height, hands, etc.

There will always be differences found in the length of the handles from one Kami to another and, the material available will have a bit to do with it also. Uncle Bill would probably notice if a handle was too far off and not send it out until someone wanted one for small hands or the other way around. I just measured the length of the handles on my 18" Siru. at 5.5", the 20" at 6" and the18"WWII at 6". I measured from the hump of the Bolster to the butt cap. If you wanted the horn only measurement it would be about an inch shorter. I don't have the other blades you mentioned. My WWII 16.5" measures 4.5". The bolster and handle being just a bit short, which allows for the 11.5" blade.

Hope this helps some.:)

I'm back from the convention and I still haven't seen or handled an 18" Siru.

Matter of fact, HI hadn't made an 18" that I can remember about 3 years ago. Uncle Bill ordered a Hanuman (dui chirra) blade on a WW2 handle. A half dozen or so turned up with a WW2 blade and the Hanuman handle. A few of us got then and said "Hey, this is just like a WW2, but longer blade. Make us up some 18" WW2's and next thing you know we have 18" WW2's, 18" AK's, 18" Sirupati's.

Also, about that time HI had 15" and 20" length. LeRoy Thompson had written an article a year or two earlier, and listed 12". 15", and 20". I asked Uncle, and he said they didn't have any left, and there wasn't a call for enough to do a run... apparently we got 6 people interested. So I am apparently the Patron Saintor Godfather of the reborn 12"ers.

Take that duckipuss!

Well DJ, I took a nice picture and made a bunch of measurements early this morning to post here and the forces in the universe that determine who gets to post and when decided that posting that picture was unfavorable this morning. So I'll come back later tonight when things settle down and try again.

Here'a a representative selection of handles. Keep in mind that sizes and shapes will vary with handmade items. I don't have a 20" siru or an 18" chitlangi, but I think this will give you a good idea. I threw in the UBE as a reference for comparison to a really BIG handle.

The handle lengths were measured brass to brass, i.e. between the bolster and the buttcap, exclusive of either. Here they are in order:

18" GS (Bura) 4-3/4"
18" Sirupati (Sher) 5"
18" Kobra (Kumar) 4-7/8"
18" WWII (Sher) 4-15/16"
19" UBE (Bura) 5-1/8"
21" Chitlangi (Durba) 4-3/8"
21" GS (Durba) 4-7/8"

The longest handle I've got is on the 25" kobra. It measures 5-3/8" but is not as large in diameter as the UBE.
