Here is a progress report for those of you interested in my 'budget bali handle' project.

After much experimentation, I can now make a liner fairly quickly and fairly well, IMHO. By 'quickly' I mean a few hours total.

I've tried making a bolster and I think it came out good. I used a large bar of copper I got from somewhere and used a hacksaw/file/sandpaper to shape it. From start to finish, a bolster takes a couple hours.

The handles are going to be thick because the aluminum I used for a liner is still rather thick and the copper I'm using for bolsters is thick as well. I don't think that will matter though because the handles are also going to be wider and longer than the original Jag's. I guess we'll see when I'm done.

Anyway, here's a picture of the liner and a more or less finished bolster next to the original.

So, what does everyone think would look best for the inserts? A dark stain on the wood or a clear coating?

I wish you good luck!

Wow, looks pretty good so far! I don't know about a dark wood to go along with dark bolsters, it's just my personal opinion. Any color balisong will look awesome it's just what level of awesomeness you want it to be!

Just kidding, play with the materials that you have and figure out what you like best. Best of luck!!
