Hello, I am looking for some ideas for a handle on my CS trench hawk, I broke 2 of the stock handles one day. I made a wood one from a handle I had laying around in the garage, thing it was oak? I wrapped in tight with paracord but I broke it yesterday. All have broke off at the bottum screw.

I am using the hawk for camping, small chores around the house, and a good amount of throwing which is how I break them.

Would a home made micarta be strong enough? Or a combination of materials? I have some heavy red wood I was gonna make the next handle out of. I dont want to invest my time into another wooden handle Im going to break though.

My experience is limited on whats going to hold up, so I could use some of the knowledge out there.

Thank you

Wrap duct tape around the screw area. 1/4" thick layer of rubber tape makes a great shock absorber, and helps keep an axe handle from breaking.

It's a trick my grandpa always uses on wood handles, but I imagine it would help with this one too.

I had been trying to think of a way to absorb the shock. All breaking has occurred at bottom bolt. When the handle hits instead of the blade all the shock in transferred to that bolt. I thought about drilling the hole bigger, putting in the bolt than putting rubber in the extra area provided by the bigger hole.
