Handle Material Options for HI Khukuris

I was wondering which HI models are available with wooden handles instead of horn? I've been very impressed with the horn handles on the khukuris I own, but I might like to try something different on the next addition to my collection. My copy of the HI brochure states that the 15" AK, the BAS and the WWII are available with wooden or horn handles; the Hanuman obviously has a sculpted wood handle. Are any other models available with wooden handles? Also, what type of wood is used in these handles?

Just curious…

We can special order about anything for handle material. I try to stay away from bone because it likes to crack. Also getting horns big enough to handle some of the bigger models like a 20 inch AK is sometimes hard to find.

Bill: Do you have luck with Brass Handles? I'm interested in your opinion on those (I think I've seen pictures of those on your website).

I don't like brass. It is pretty but it is slippery and when cold a sweaty palm will freeze to it. I try to stay away from brass and bone.

Bill, I thought the same thing (pretty, but not functional) until a customer who'd bought one did something interesting. Blackdog put some sort of grip tape on the handle, and said he was pleased with the results (you can see his comments on the general blade discussion forum. I guess it's all a matter of personal taste. I personally like the look of the brass handle, but do agree that it would be slippery without doing something like the "tape" option.
