Working on a machete. I'm looking for something between horse stall mat and Micarta. Horse mat is too soft and micarta/G10 is too hard. Any suggestions for a black 3/8" thick material?

I've wracked my brain for 4 days and can't come up with anything. I even tried the plastic shop and they didn't have anything in black that would work.

Horse stall mat & micarta laminate?

That's what I was thinking too, might be worth a try. I'm not sure, since I've never used horse-stall mat. I have used neoprene scales from TKS and they aren't "mushy" at all, but they are very grippy and warm-feeling.

I am doing a laminate set of scales for a customer, I'm doing stall mat over micarta. I did some testing and epoxy works great to bond them. They should be really comfortable.

I really like cord wraps for their shock absorbing qualities, cord over leather is a nice alternative.

Conveyor belt material or neoprene would work great also.

McMaster Carr has some Rubber products with a very detailed description of hardness, chemical resistance etc... I will see If I can find it and get you the link.

Edit: Here is the link, scroll down and they explain hardness of each product. Here is the LINK

I used some of the medium hardness stuff for this knife that I made for a Texas Hog hunt I did this summer:

Actually Zaph, if you want some rubber, I have some 2" wide, 1/2" thick 70 durometer stuff from MSC i would be happy to send you...I want to say it is about a foot long? It is extra i had for trying to reface a contact wheel. seems to be tough stuff. I will go measure it in a second...

70 durometer would be about perfect. 90 might be ok, maybe a bit hard. I've got a couple 1/2" diameter bolt/rivets from a bicycle sprocket that are exactly what I wanted. However, the horse mat was too squishy and wouldn't hold onto the 3/8" shoulder counterbore.

Mike, send it and I'll send you a bag of beef jerky in exchange! Just ask Sam Salvati how good it is.

Ok, it is boxed and will ship out in an hour. Beef Jerky makes me happy in the pants :) Happy to help regardless.

Very colorful handles! Sweet, you interested in selling me a block of black and gold, or trading for a bag of jerky?

I know you've all heard this before, but the dogs ate all the beef jerky again! My wife left it out while she was folding laundry, came back in the kitchen and found the dogs water bowl empty and the jerky gone.

Tell me what flavor you want, since I have to make more anyway.
