Has anyone used hardwood flooring for their handle. I have some, just wanted to know. How do u rip it in half so it is 1/4inch or so wide on table saw without dying?

You're better off just buy a wood species of your choice from a knifemaking supplier.

If you're dead set on using that material, it's not necessary to "rip" it on a table saw. Just use it as is and sand it to shape.

But if you really want to know look up "zero tolerance throat plates" for you table saw.
You can make them yourself too.
Worst case . . . you won't die you will just have slivers of wood break all to hell as they go down the throat in the table saw.

Well I suppose if you don't use a push stick and do it wrong you might get a sliver kicked back and run through you like a spear if you stand in the wrong place but that is all part of the fun of using a table saw.

Precision bandsaw anyone?

There is nothing wrong with using it. I've used material like that and have had no problems. Just sand it to suit your taste. DM

yup, i wouldnt rip it. just sand to size/shape.

if you absolutely had to rip it - I'd use a hand miter saw with the proper blade - shouldnt take to long to cut a couple peices at knife handle length

You can get nice walnut, cocobolo, desert ironwood, or really, whatever wood you desire really, on the big auction site for less than a 6 pack of Sam Adams.

That's my go to source for sourcing scales. Works good, looks good, and sized bigger than I need (thickness and width) to get the size I want.

I would think even if its solid wood flooring, it would be awful thin to make scales out of. Unless you put a really thick liner behind it. Good luck.
