Has anyone tried wrapping a fixed blade haft with nylon rope, say three-eights or so diameter, then melting it with a propane torch?
Reason I'm asking is I use 3/8 diameter black nylon rope for antenna guys and so on. I always melt the cut ends with a lighter or torch. If/when I get carried away with the heat, the result is a blob of shiny black, very hard, and damned near indestructable material that really sticks to whatever it drops on. In fact, it's virtually impossible to remove. A thick coating of this stuff on a haft, then of course ground/filed/sanded down might be good material. Surely not for a custom but maybe a-okay for a work knife.
Thanks for any advice/comments.
