I just bought a Kabar impact D2 spear point off ebay for $47 .Its a nice knife but the micarta handles are just a tad to thick for my liking. Could I take a dremmel and grind them down a little? Has any one modified micarta handles before?

You could use a Dremel, but there is a much better and easier way. Clamp the knife in a vice, edge down. Starting with either 50 or 80 grit sandpaper, sand away using a shoeshine method (wrap the paper over the spine, grab one end with each hand below the bottom of the handle so that the paper contacts the top and both sides). Shop rolls work best, if not available grab a 1" x 30" belt and cut it. Just continue up through the grits till you get a finish you want. 120 then 320 will probably do as it gives a good grip. You should be able to easily contour the handle to your exact liking. Good luck!
