handle passaround

Very good idea! I ordered a FSH with mag handle now I am a little worry it might be too thick for my hnad! BTW I have medium size hands.

Another vote. If there could be a sample with just the handle cut off from the blade for passaround. Or maybe somekind of duplicate mold made of plastic.

I'd be up for a handle passaround. Specifically a magnum snakeskin handle for a FSH and also a tiger stripe std slab for HOFSH.. Also should be in pairs to really get the feel. While your at it can you pass around two bare knives for feel without the handles. They should be an HOFSH and an FSH.

That way we really know the feel. Start off with me since I thought of the idea.

m10commander- we're in the same boat- I also ordered the magnum handles with a medium sized hand of my own. After deciding that for that much $$$ I would wait for exactly what I wanted to show up (even though I never could really figure out what that was- each knife and combo kept looking better than the last) I freaked when the company store no longer listed the regular handled FSHs- too scared to miss out.

Here's the good news- while I was trying to make up my mind, I thought I'd see if I couldn't save a little money and pick one up on the Exchange forum. What I found out was that not only couldn't I save any money getting a used Busse, but that unless I was awfully quick and in the right place at the right moment, I couldn't even get a used Busse! They seem to go as fast as they are offered, and I didn't see anything that looked like a discount price- although many people talked about what a bargain some of them were.

Bottom line is I don't see any way we're going to get hurt- even if the handles are too big, we should be able to trade or sell- assuming we can part with it of course! Oh, yeah- if you're brave or confident enough, you can reshape/resize the handle to suit yourself- should be plenty of material to work with :)

Hi MVF, You are right! I am new to Busse knife but not new to knives but I am not a collector because so far only have two Strider & a few less expensive folders. Don't get me wrong Strider is a good knife but I would not dare compare it to a Busse for abusive use & they are in the same price range($350+) When I check Busse site the FSH with regular handle wasn't even there, only two choices black & tan crinkle finish both with mag handle. I end up ordered a tan finish like you said if the handle is too big I would sell/trade it at maybe with a little or no loss at all.

 Must say I love the Magnum handles :D I have large hands though  I think it would be very easy to take a dremel with the right bit and reduce/reshape the slabs to custom fit it the way you like ;), but it might reduce your resale value depending on how good/bad you do

Well....... someone needs to send Jerry an email. I've got my fusion. :p
Oh, and if you guys are serious about doing this, I'd suggest you set this up in the normal passaround forums, and make sure you ask everyone (on the honor system) if they are a serious buyer or not, and let those folks be first. Also, you'll want to set a very short period of time for everyone to keep the knife/knives/handle(s). 2 or 3 days should be good. Good Luck.

The day that your knife disappears from the Company Store, you can sell it for what you paid. No sweat. Assuming unused condition, of course.
Even if used, you aren't going to lose much.

The more think about it, the more I think it's not worth the effort.
Guys, I'm going to say just go with your gut on this one. If you like thick handles as a general rule, get the magnum. If you don't get the fusion. I generally prefer a slim handle on a knife, so the choice was obvious. Now, if you're still stuck, have someone post what the max. thicknesses are on each of the handles, and you should have an idea of which you want.
The handle on the fusion is as thick as any knife I've owned.
Maybe this will give you the best idea: If you're familiar with Becker's (if not I think most knife store would carry them) the fusion handle feels about as wide as the Beckers, which are already considered pretty wide by most people. I know because I just handled both of them.

The regular scales feel very good to me. I think those magnums are for xx large hands, especially HOFSH with magnum.

I have a HOFSH with the regular slabs. I love it! I have to SFNO's - one regular and one magnum. I may be selling the magnum. The regular slabs feel better in my hand for that size knife. However, when the FBM comes out, methinks it will be magnum slabs all the way. That baby's for chopping! Although, we'll see if there will be a HO version. I might just stay with regular then. We'll see. That's the fun.

Cheers,
BJB :D

If you go to "Help with handle choice-newbie" (sorry- I don't know how to do that link to another post thing) some people were good enough to give the measurements of both the Magnum handles and the standards. There are also some good links to pictures that might help.

This is a great bunch here- but y'all have too many knives! Just gimme one of those drawers!!!!!!! :D

I have small but very fat hands. I have a HOFSH and NO with magnum grips and like them as much as the E handles on my NO-E and SH-E. Although the E handles feel better initially, these knives are not for delicate work, and big fat handles cause less fatigue in my hand.

Split the difference, get one on one side and the other on the other side.

I have mediumish hands and the magnum slabs (on a HOG FSH) fill the hand very well, they would also work well with thick gloves on, which is good if you want to use the knife in -30C degree weather. :D

I just did a quick comparison, on my EU-17 Mag (almost 5/16s and with standard slabs) the handle is not that secure when wearing *thick* winter gloves. On the other hand, the HOG FSH with Mag slabs fills the hand even when wearing the gloves and feels secure.
