I thought you guys might like to see this. I've been working on this off and on for a while now and just had the first thing that I could consider a success. I've been trying to make wood handle scales for my BK-7 with limited success. This one would have been fine but I drilled it wrong and the screws wont fit into the nuts on the other side; I only got one to fit. I think the problem was that I drilled after I carved and the holes went in crooked. I only have the one scale right now. I started the other but realized after five minutes that I was carving the same scale, doh! Though, I guess that's good news now that I messed this one up. It is comfortable though, when I get a decent one I'll stain it and sand it up.
I know it's not the best picture, I'm having trouble with lighting today.

I fixed it, I widened the holes for the head of the screw to give them more wiggle room. They all line up with their intended nuts now. I split the wood a little with the drill bit, but ten minutes with the Dremel fixed that right up, now to do the other scale.

It's just pine I scrapped from an old bed. If I like them when I'm done I may make them out of something better.

A scroll saw would make that easier. Hand carving might be fun though. :D

I finished carving the other handle today. Only a slight problem with one of the nuts not fitting but I think I can fix it. Next I need to stain them.

I'm guessing you wanted to keep the coating on the tang of the knife. If you attatch the handles before shaping, you can marry them to the tang and have a seemless fit. A belt sander, in addition to your dremmell will help a lot. Harbor frieght has a 1x32 for about $30. Rehandles are fun projects.

I carved mine based on the old handles, I just didn't drill straight. Those handles look nice though, what kind of screws are those, I may need to try this later on.

I believe the tang is fully hardened. I used corby bolts on the handle. It's cocbolo wood. That pic was taken before the final sanding, polish and sealing. I did that handle for a friend in new york. the knife resides there now. :D
