I have wondered about this for a while. The Magnum handled knives seem to go very quickly when on the for sale forum. The flat scaled handles not as fast.

Do any of you prefer the flat scaled models to magnums, or are the Magnums pretty much the way to go?

I personally prefer standard. I have only handled one magnum, but I like the speed and feel of the standard while changing grip position.
 
I prefer the mag scales on the big HO blades.
They just feel better for me for chopping.
The standard FSH I use has regular scales and they feel great and are better suited for me while I'm using the knive more as knive as a chopper.
But this is all personal preference you just gotta try it and find it out what fits you best.
 
I've got a SFNO with the flat handles and one with the magnums. I prefer the magnums. They are much more comfortable.
