Handle Question

The other day I dropped the 309 Companion as I was putting on the dresser with change, keys, etc. Anyway, the handle popped off when it hit the hardwood floor. It did not break, crack or anything just came off. It is jigged bone, a dark greenish color. My question is, can I simply glue it back with super glue or should I send it back to Buck. It is an older knife. Thanks for the advice.

Hi PP,

Can you post a photo of your knife and the damage that happened? I have not seen any Buck 309's with picked green bone, so it would be wonderful to see your's.

I'm not one of the knife manglers here, so my suggestion would be to send it back to Buck and have them repair the handle. Do you know if they were the ones who put the green scales on.

Would love to post a photo. I don't know how but when my daughter gets home from work I'll see if she can. I think it came from Buck with these handles but again, I'm not 100% sure about that. They might be dark brown or some other color but they look greenish to me. I'll see what I can do about some pics. Thanks

Does it look like one of these. 300Bucks

Its a Brown Bone 309. Sold ~1989 - 93. Is it date coded after the 309 + or - ?

You can send it to Buck and it will come back looking almost brand new and pretty darn sharp. OR deal with it yourself per you ability.

I will say Buck uses some fancy commerical epoxy. About the best you can easily do is Loctite Epoxy 60min. 60 holds better than 5min. Clean off any residue, clean with alcohol and use no more than barely enough.....wrap with a couple of newspaper rubberbands....300Bucks

PP, Thanks for the photos and 300 for the history . I'd send it to Buck as they do have Good epoxy and are equipped to do that work . DM

I vote for sending it to Buck. It falls right in their warranty policy. They will not only put the scale back for you, but will sharpen, clean, polish and anything else they think is appropriate . Maybe re-glue the other scale too? (if one failed, perhaps the other will) don't know about that, though.

My wife and daughter posted the picture. It has a greenish hue to it but I thought it might be a dark brown. I guess I'll send it back. I also have a yellow 309 that had the tip of the main blade bent. I tried to straighten it but I'm sure they could correct like it should be. Buck has always had super customer service. Thanks for all the replys. The 309 is just a good little EDC for me. Thanks again.

Is it all stainless steel or is there some brass liners. Brass first years, SS last two.

Another example of transition when Buck Stockman became all stainless. 90 to 91 era.

It is a 309+ which I think makes it a 1991. The liners look like stainless. I have a yellow 309v, 1989 which has brass. These should be off the Buck today or tomorrow. Thanks.
