handle removal

From an enlarged version of your first pic, it looks like the handle is attached using a crimped metal band around the edge. Looks like that band could be easily pried off with a screwdriver. Then, if your luck is like mine, you'll find that it's welded on or something nasty like that. Hopefully not.

Something else to consider is, if it really has the above-mentioned band, you could probably tighten the crimp with judicious, gentle taps all around using a hard piece of scrap wood.

If you decide to undertake the project, I would be interested in some WIP pictures of then handle in its various degrees of disassembly. I've never encountered a knife handle like that.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply . i will have to look a little bit closer. will post pics of what happens if anything does. The maker went out of business in 1953 is all i have found out so far. Never seen one like it so thought it was worth the $4

They're going for between $33 and $103 at online auctions.
wow ! glad i decided not to uncrimp it ! Im new at this and my skill level would of ruined it. But i did take the smallest punch i had and "peened" around the area on the butt of the handle where you see the end of the tang and that got rid of my slack.
Took a piece of Eagle One Never Dull to the handle and it cleaned up nicely . too nicely lol a little shinier than i would of liked but Never Dull or not it will dull back up im sure.
Clean the blade up in the next couple days. I try to keep them as original and patinaed as i can.
thanks for the input.
