apologies if this has been brought up before, but the search ain't workin' for me today

Has anyone had their handles replaced? Just for color choices - like i got a SJT tan/snakeskin and would like to see it as tan/tan perhaps.

I'm assuming it would have to be sent back to ohio, and take at least two weeks

hmm... actually, we should build a Busse Configurator

I don't know about the handle replacment but you might be better off trading yours for the one you want. It would be quicker than 2 weeks.

Last I heard, even a handle replacement was in the months for a wait. I agree, with Heavy. if you want tan/tan, you might consider a trade. Email me at progunner@insightbb.com, I happen to have a tan/tan that I would trade you if yours is mint.

I'm also curious about a handle replacement if that's possible.

Last I heard they weren't doing handle replacements cause it's hard to get the fasteners off.

When I asked, my fellow forumites said it's pretty easy. Just use a drill. I haven't tried myself though.

better off to trade, there's probably a two year wait with all the new babies and all. :(  :)

I should have a definite answer on this by monday (about a SAR, but I'm sure the price will be the same: it's all three hole micarta). I talked to Amy today, but of course Garth is celebrating fatherhood and won't be available to give a definite answer until next week. Good for him!!!
If it's bad news feel free to contact me about trading my gunstore edc for your field edc...

I have tried, on a BA-E, and yes it works. I took them off to BB it and then realized that I didn't need to take them off to BB it  . I can't remember what size bit I used but it ended up being just a hair smaller than the hole in the INFI. I didn't drill the INFI at all. The handles popped right off. I was very fortunate that the Busse shop had time to put the handles back on for me. Thanks Garth! :)

I would definitely check with the shop first.

Does Busse also recoat your blade? Also just curious about this.
Thnx:o

They'll do Bead Blasting or Satin finish but it's been my experience that they don't re-coat.

Hmmmm, not that I'm positive about this, but I do remember seeing in other posts and elsewhere about sending in your knives for "overhauls", in which the edge is redone and a recoat is applied. Jerry also did offer to recoat a guys HD that got the coating knocked off when he chipped away at some ice when ice fishing. JurT you may want to call the shop to ask about this, if you're thinking about changing coats that may be something else but if all you want done is have your coating reapplied it may be worth the call.

Just my two cents.

They can do damn near anything to the knife , they make them from scratch for cryingout loud.First of all, all custom work takes a long time to get around to especially if it takes them away from making a new knife. (IE: Time spent on your $30.00 repair could just as easily be spent making a $300.00 knife)
1) Yes they can recoat.
2 ) Yes they can make new handles.
3) Yes you can get the handles off witha drill, BUT BE CAREFUL TO USE A SHARP BIT OR THE SPINNING FASTENER WILL TEAR UP YOUR MICARTA. You`re better off sending it to the shop and having someone who does it for a living do it for you. (That way if there IS a screw up...you get new handles.)

These are all just cosmetic touch ups. They don`t affect the performance of the knife. But it`s your knife and your money. Call Garth and see what thewait and price are.

I think I can help here. I am sending in my SFNO to get the Standard scales replaced with Magnum ones. Garth said that since the SF handles are being used on the HR, it would take less than three months (but if I wait it could take much longer). I can't wait to get it back.

Hey Peter,

How much does it costs to replace the handles?

The cost is $75 US, including return shipping. This for black magnum canvas scales, snakeskin is more.

Yeah, I contacted Garth a while back. They can do what Chosen-Frozen said. But the turnaround is not particularly quick, as I recall.
