Can anybody tell me why Randall Made Knives will not allow you to custom order models: 14, 15 and 16 with green canvas micarta? I've seen them on ebay but the catalogue says different.

Any why they won't make customer models: 1 and 5 with a model 25 handle?
 
If they were to provide the green micarta or did you send the material to them yourself?

I've been ordering RAndalls for over 20 years...I'm not a dealer..just a collector....

And with very rare exception, they'll put on your knife whatever you send them....with the caveat that they will not be liable if the handle material disintegrates, etc. Which makes sense...

Also, if you asked them to put on your personally supplied green micarta and they said no, contact a Randall dealer...they hold more sway with Gary than an occasional purchaser....

On the handle thing....sometime there are nuances in the tang length or angle that precludes the ability of the shop to move (for example a model 25 handle interpretation over to a model 1)....but more importantly, Gary owns the place and if he doesn't want #1's out there with #25 handles, he just ain't gonna make it...period...

Aside from that, he might have a #1 with a #25 appearing handle in the works for production some years down the line and he doesn't want to beat himself to the "punch" by making a "one-off" for you...

Bottom line from this RKS member and long-time Randall owner (l965 was the first) is that they are very accomodating and as a rule of thumb, will do whatever you want done and if they won't do it...they have an abiding reason....well....usuallygg:)
 
I agree...I think they will put about any Micarta on a knife as long as you supply it, Ivory as well. I went to the shop today and took them five blocks of a Tan Micarta that I hadn't seen before. Scott, the shop foreman, told me he liked the look of it but said it can be brittle and wouldn't garuntee it. They are going to put it on the ones I ordered though. Also, spent about 45 minutes with Gary showing him some older Models I had and getting his opinion. Contrary to what some say, I've always found Gary and Scott to be very friendly and always willing to help with or just talk about knives.

My uncle went to high school with Gary, and when we went down over spring break last year, he was really helpful and friendly. Seems very genuine aobut everything and willing to discuss and work with you. As it has been said, it is his perogative as far as what goes on a knife. Don't take it personally.

P.S.- the shop is soooo cool to visit. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Orlando area.
 
Green canvas micarta is available from RMK just not in the channled that is required for the full tang Mods. like you mention. You can get the Cut down tang mods. 14 and 15 from the shop or you can get the full tang ones if you supply the channled micarta with your order. The specs on the channled micarta are VREY specific and must be exact or they won't take it. Greg
