Handle/Scale Texture

Receipt of a Kershaw Avalanche in trade -- the other trader hasn't had the chance to approve the knife I sent him yet -- brought this subject to mind. The Avalanche has G-10 scales. Great scales, IMO. They are extremely easy to get a grip on. The only other knife handle I own that is in the same class for level of grippiness is my Spyderco Calypso Jr.,which is in FRN.

I used to be a sweaty-handed guy. Fibromyalgia and/or the medications I take have changed that. I have very dry, kind of slick palm/finger skin. It rarely bothers me with knife handles, but it is such a pleasant, welcome surprise to come across a texture that really enables a strong grip.

Why is it that so many knife handles tend towards the slick? G-10 is increasingly being buffed smooth. Wood is usually very smooth, as is micarta. Metal handles, unless texturized in some way are slick as owl pellets to me. I can't say that either the Avalanche or Calypso Jr are my favorite knives, but, the grippiness of their handles is very pleasing, and sometimes tempting to me.

Am I the only one that has some trouble hanging onto many knife handles?
