Handle screw question

I bought a Lum Tanto folder from BladeHQ. I change scales on *most* knives I buy like Spyderco and Emerson.

SO...I ordered a set of scales from Custom Scale Division/Cuscadi.de.

The standard handle screws aren't long enough to mount the scales. I've reached out to Cuscadi, and I'm sure we'll get it sorted. (Edit: NO, It didn't get sorted)

In the meantime, could anyone tell me what the standard screw (size T6) measurements are? I'll need to hunt for something a few (5mm?) millimeters longer than stock. The left circle shows the stock screw barely peeking out.

Thanks!

Two months? Anyone?
Just saw this thread! I gifted mine to my son..so I’ll see what I can find out. Have you thought about making the relief deeper in the aftermarket scales?

Thanks for the reply. I have thought about making the relief deeper, but I don't have the tools to do it. I've tried different screws, but everything I buy is either too short or too long. It's a beautiful blade, but I can't stand the scales.

At this point, I'd pay someone with the skills to just get the knife together...

If they won’t supply the needed screws with their scales return the scales for a refund.

^^^he’s got a point! Other manufacturers of scales will usually give the proper hardware required to install the scales …if needed.

Maybe one of the paid service providers on the forum could help you with the installation.

Other than shipping the knife to the EU, I'm stuck. They told me that "the original screws will work." They didn't. They sent emails showing what size screws would work. I bought them. They're too long.

I have no problem with the quality of the scales, other than the screw holes. I'm also *NOT* knocking Cuscadi. Things happen, I just don't want to ship anything to the EU.

I'll see if any knife makers can help.

Sorry, just saw this.

You have three choices:
- return the scales
- counter sink the screw holes in the scales deeper (ugly ?)
- buy longer screws. The Lum Tanto is made in Japan, so they are metric. Just measure the diameter, for example if it’s 3mm, these will be M3 screws. I don’t have the knife, unfortunately.

I bought the next size up in screw length, but the screws bottom out, before the scales are tight.
Here's a photo I just took. Note the stand off "pins," stop pin and pivot bolt DO NOT have enough length to hold both halves together. The other liner and scale just sit on top.

This is an issue with the countersink on the scales not being deep enough. Even with longer screws, the *pivot* doesn't touch the other liner.

Like I said, I don't have the tools to put a *very small* countersink to the hardware holes.

I can't find anyone in the knifemaker section that does scales, so I'll keep looking...

Trimming the screws won't help, since the pivot isn't captured by the opposite liner/scale.

Suggestion: spacing material. Might look nice with red fiber between scales and frame taking up the excess screw length.
