I'm just about ready to put the slabs on my first two knives. One will be cherry and the other mahogany. What is the best finish for wodden knife handles? Thanks.

Mahogany will be too soft unless you have the wood stablized. You can easily dent mahogany with your thumbnail.

That said, there are many different ways to finish a wood handle. I like penetrating epoxy, but people have used everything from varnish to super glue. You might experiment on a few scraps of wood and see what you personally prefer.

for mahogany and cherry you should just get it stabalized, like cjensema suggested. then all you have to do is sand it to a fine grit, like 600, or 800. after that i use 0000 steel wool to polish it.
