Handles

Superglue...in all seriousness ranger bands work well. As of yet I have never been in need of more grip with Becker handles. I use a lanyard as a safety precaution but it has never come into actual service. Hope you find the answers you're looking for.

It's tricky to get on. Best I found was to roll it up like a condom, fight it around the end, once it's in place where you want it to start, unroll. I suppose it can be trimmed once on or soap can be used to help but I didn't want anything under there to gunk up.

I used sand paper, you can always go rougher or smoother...

Well, until you and through the slabs... Works fine on my 4 and 5 though.

Another +1 for Ranger Bands. It's a pain in the @$$ to put on (just make sure knife is sheathed first 😉)

If you have the BK2 (not BK22) sheath, if you want a more fuller handle with a ranger band you will need to cut it a little more at an angle so it will lock into place correctly.

I know it's not the answer you want to hear, but you'll be very happy if you upgrade to the kabar factory micarta. I never had an issue with the factory scales being to slick, even when freezing cold and soaking wet, but I still just wanted something slightly grippier, mostly just for peace of mind I guess since I don't always use a lanyard. Anyways, the micarta upgrade is like a match made in heaven for the bk lineup, just about perfect

Another idea if ranger bands are not to your liking is to use sandblasting on the scales, I read about it on the forum and modified a few. Same idea as sandpaper but easier to apply evenly if aesthetics matter. It adds a light texture that helps a bit with grip and doesn't cause hotspots. (Although the design of the grip is ok without extra grip IMHO as I later learned swinging a bk21 for several hours with a unmodified handle , Uncle E did a splendid job on that handle.)
