Hi, I'm a bit new here, or at least I rarely post (lurker, mostly :) ) and I was thinking about buying a BK7 off of my friend. Great knife at an even better price. I'd use it as an outdoor/camping knife.

I've done some searches and found that some people have customized their handles and I would do the same if I buy it (it's a bit uncomfortable feeling in my hands otherwise). I was wondering if perhaps linen micarta or G10 was the way to go. I was also considering a wooden handle maybe  I am NOT a fan of cord-wraps, so that's out. But any suggestions or information on the advantages of one over the other would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Hope this is the right forum to ask about a DIY, but direct me elsewhere if it isn't.

Do a search in this forum for 'Handles' and I think you'll find some threads covering BK hand-holds. My BK9 has not been a problem, but I have mainly used it this winter, when I was wearing light canvas gloves with those rubber 'gripper dots' on them. The knife does move in my hand when not wearing said gloves. I am considering removing the handles and maybe brushing on some liquid rubber or something similar.

Some guys have had the handles sandblasted, some have sanded them down, wrapped them with racket tape, ect.

Now that you have broken the ice, don't just lurk! We all learn from one another here.

Phil
