Handmade Whittler?

Can anyone recommend a maker? I am looking to get a slip joint whittling knife. Would like a two blade knife out of D-2 steel or another good stay sharp steel. I would really like one blade to be about 21/2" fine point clip and the other a 1/3/4 to 2" wharncliff also to a fine piont. If I was to get a 3 blade knife I think a small spear would be nice. I would like to use this knife as a basic pocket knife, to clean nails, open mail, and other basic cutting chores, in addition to whittling. I talked to Dan Burke the other day, and he does make a nice whittler, only problem he has a 2 year wait. Does anyone know another maker, that would make such a knife without so long a wait? Thanks for the help.
Regards, Jim

Only two I have orders from are Burke and Bose. Put in your order and wait. You will be pleased in the long run. Dick

Hi Jim,

Here is a pic of a Dan Burke Half Whittler in D2 and real Utica Bone. It is worth the wait.

Here is also one you can get in about six months from Bill Simons. He does not use the fancy bone or the embellishments that some other makers use, but does make a very well fitted knife. Bill will tell you up front that he makes working knives. I like mine.

This one is ATS-34 and has all stainless frame and fittings. He does use D2 also. His phone number is (863) 646-3783.

If you would like to see a couple more, look here:

Thank You for your info, I think I already made up my mind to put in an order with Dan Burke. I faxed him this AM. May also order a Simons as I am really into whittling. I have some wood carving knives, but prefer to use a knife. Guess you can never have too many.
Jeff, thanks for sharing your knife pictures, you sure have some beauties.
Regards, Jim
