Handmades at Factory Prices

There are some knifemakers who produce seriously top line work but seem to charge very little for their knives.

One of my favorites is Wayne Hendrix of South Carolina (influenced by George Herron who in turn was influenced by Bob Loveless). Wayne Hendrix knives are closer to the Herron slimmer sleeker style

and they are almost ridiculously low priced for the quality (actually some are priced lower than many factory knives.)
eg: 2 knives in this photo are priced at $75......

I have more details and lots of photos in the Gallery at (linked) -
Hendrix

Another name is also from South Carolina - also influenced by George Herron - but his knives are closer to the classic Loveless style -
and to my eyes with more elegant and sleeker lines -
Bill "Gordon" DeFreest

and at around $200 - they aren't exactly cheap, but a lot less expensive than the conveyor belt "specials" from the factory.

Again more details and lots of pics in the Gallery section at (linked) -

Please tell us about your favorite great value handmades
and show us pics if you can.....

Mike Cooper (BFC name L6steel) produces some very nice handmade fixed blades at affordable prices. Don't have his site URL handy anymore though. :(

My favorite in this category is still Bob Dozier. Even though his prices have finally gone up a little bit, he still charges less than some comparable production knives for pieces that are among the finest custom knives available.

His knives are clean, lots of attention to detail, good designs, and his D2 holds a better edge than anything I've ever used by a pretty good margin.

$148 from David Winston. Definatly one of my favorites

Wow, that is incredable! With Damascus the materials alone would be close to that.

It was my first Winston, I spotted a post where he sold a knife similar. I posted that if he ever made another like it, I wanted one. That night, he e-mailed me and agreed to make me one larger for the same price. Now, 8 Winstons later, I can't get enough of his deals. But he made those damned "Key" knives, now I can't get my fix anymore :(

Here's mine

Paid $120 for it. D2 blade and African blackwood handles. Great knife. I own a key as well.

Another vote for Dozier.

Plus Mike Obenauf - super craftsman ship folders for the price of a Sebenza

john greco and newt livesay (if ya can get ahold of newt, anyway) make some great stuff at really low prices imho

one of the things I was taught was to look at the tapered tang as a sign of good workmanship -
here are couple of ~$75 Hendrix knives' tapered tangs -
