I would really like my bg42 blade to have a handrubbed satin finish. do you guys know anyone (reasonably priced, of course) who can help me with that without screwing up the thumb stud, or, if the thumbstud has to be screwed up, then that person can put in another nice thumbstud PLUS the person must be able to put that scary sharp edge back after the handrubbing?

the satin finish on the decorated sebbies are machined finished, right? I really like the longitudinal-type hand rubbed finish...

am I seeking the impossible?

I've already asked Matt and Tom no longer does sebbie-mods :(

Not to steel your thread, but what exactly is hand-rubbed? How does it differ from for example a machine satin finish? (apart from that it's probably a manual job)
Thanks,
Ted

hey Ted, don't worry about stealing. nobody replied to this thread at all =(

but handrubbed satin has a nicer, 3-D feel to it (finer lines, some lines are darker) but most importantly it's usually done in a longitudinal manner, as opposed to the vertical lines in machine satin.

thanks art. I checked out Reese's site. I think I can't afford $100 for a handrubbed finish...haha. I was hoping for a $50ish budget. Ah well, I'll just go the way of the stonewash.

Something that will dress up the stonewash finish is to use "Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish". You can find it at Wal-Mart or some of the auto stores. Just use this stuff on the blade and after a few polishings you WILL see a difference. Then it is up to you as to how far you want to take it.
