I posted some pics of this head as I received it in another thread. 3 lbs. 14 oz. Here it is cleaned up a bit.

Here it is fitted up and ready for a wedge.

I tried to shape a wedge to fit the eye and the gap left by the slightly undersized haft.

Here it is oiled up and set to go in.

Here it is driven home, cut, and sanded. You can see it wasn't a perfect fit, and that it split a small part of the haft. I left it a bit proud. If I sand it flush it will likely be a bit cleaner.

Some final shots. It's a big head on a 36" handle. It came out nice and clean around the shoulder.

what a beautiful profile! Nice cleanup job too, I love 'em looking like that. A finer brushed finish in the long direction really makes 'em look like they want to GO.

You are really making axe restoration into an art form. The finished piece is beautiful and yet still completely utilitarian. It's impressive.

I'd love to take a few swings with that Legitimus.

Great job! Maybe with the Holidays coming up I'll have more time to hang a couple of mine that have been patiently waiting.

That's some excellent work. Nicely cleaned up and the wedge idea is great. If you use it, I'd love to know how it worked out for you.
