Hanging knives on walls

I have several large-sized knives that are antique, exotic, or just collectible that are too big to display in cases. I thought of hanging them on walls. Has anyone done this and/or have any suggestions on the best way to do it?

The best way to hang antique Bowies, Tomahawks, etc. imo is to mount them on a wooden plaque and then hang that on the wall. That will save many holes and you can lay everything out on the wood before you hang it. The wood can be stained, or I just covered mine in red felt. I used nails as the way to hold the knives on. I placed them and the knives rest on them like pegs. I cut the heads off the nails, so they do not distract from the knives. I found you can make a very cool display this way. I wish I had a digicam.
