Hanging stuff in a Tent

my dad got us a Coleman Hooligan 9x7 tent.
I was looking at the Black Diamond lamps, but after putting up the tent, I realized there was no pole to hang one.

I considered a Coleman magnetic fan/light, but am still convicted!

I was hopping you guys could help me figure out a system to hang a light (I still need a fan, FL is HOOOOOOT in the summer!)?

Are you certain there is no small nylon loop at the peak? I have a small BD lantern and that is where I hang it from (my tent is not a Coleman). From a small 'biner. I looked at those fan/light combos and I may pick one up.

I just read a review on Amazon. Your tent may not have this loop. Looks like you will have to improvise. Coleman also makes a free-standing tent fan. Good luck.

My tents all have a plastic D-ring sewn into the top just underneath where the poles cross. There's also a tie above the roof so you can take the strain off of the tent fabric. If your tent doesn't have that, I'd just sew one in. My 3-season has 3 poles crossing off-center so there's a "loft" between the three cross points. REALLY nice!

Haha knew, anyway to get a magnetic fan up there?

Magnetic? Place a large steel fender washer on the top of the tent under the rainfly. A magnetic light/fan will stick to the steel washer right thru the fabric without cutting or damaging it.

+1 or jerry-rig your own like I did with an old speaker magnet

ETA: Ozark Trail at Wal-Mart makes a portable fan that runs on 8D cells that can sit on the floor if you remove the hook. I put one in my office for a while. Works like a champ.

My latest tent, a Mountainsmith Sanctuary (discontinued) has a removable mesh attic. Five loops remain when it is completely removed, but the mesh gives a good variety of positions to hang stuff like my candle lantern, and a headlamp shines down thru it just fine for when I want light without heat.

If your tent has a rainfly, there is no good reason not to sew in some loops/tabs in the center and along the ridges where the support poles are located.
