Hankerin' for new steel...

Anyone else ever get this random impulse for a new knife, and ya just don't know which one you want? Maybe even the urge to try something you normally wouldn't?

Typically I'm a jack kind of guy(the knife, and the whiskey), but here lately I've been considering stepping out of my comfort zone. Aside from still wanting a S&M teardrop harness jack with a passion, that is. The only question is, what to change?

Normally, it's a 25-75 dollar Case that ends up assuaging my wants. So, I've thought I could either 1)Look at some of the more costly items, say 100-200 dollar range. 2) Branch out in regards to the brands I look at. Or 3) Set aside 300-400 dollars, and take the plunge on my first true custom.

Any ideas, suggestions, beratements or lamentations of my mental illness and indecisiveness?

Go with your gut. While I don't have that specific knife, a S&M harness jack is a thing of beauty.

The only problem there is, as I understand it at least. Those were a SFO/Limited Run and everywhere I look that carried them is sold out now. :(

It really does have everything I want though, carbon steel, good looks, swedge, and a blade I wouldn't mind poking/prodding things with.

It was a limited run, I'm sorry to say. That there knife was commissioned by our very own Charlie Waynorth.

No need to fret though. As I mentioned previously, the S&M harness jacks are fine knives, regardless of model, and the teardrop HJ is still available if you shop around. sunnyd is quite fond of his and it has served him well.

Go look at a nice stockman. That is my favorite pattern. See if you can find a nice old henckles or hen and rooster or schrade.

I say #3. Go to eBay, get a Rick Menefee custom shadow, (several patterns to choose from), then take the leftover cash and celebrate by getting a bottle of Talisker scotch.
You'll have taken one small step for knife collecting, one giant leap for mankind.

Wait until you get a 2010 forum knife in your hands!! It will give poking and prodding a whole new meaning!

Haven't put in an order for the 2010 forum knife, and since I'm in the process of moving(June 1st) funds probably won't allow it before the order deadline. I do like the look of that swell center moose though.

I took a look at those Menefee's that were on said auction site, but honestly they just don't do it for me. Not sure if it's the micarta, the colors, or the blade shapes, but just not my "style" I guess.

Oh well, no rush on figuring out what I want, but there's definitely a desire for something new in the near future.
