Hannibal Lecter is Apparently a Spyderco Connoiseur

I read the new Thomas Harris book, "Hannibal", last night. In it, Hannibal Lecter (the extreme anti-hero most people are familiar with from the movie "Silence of the Lambs"- you know, "fava beans and a nice Chianti") buys three Spyderco knives, and uses at least one. He specifically buys, by name, a Harpy and a Civilian. I'm not sure this is the kind of publicity Spyderco wants, but there it is. Also, given the morbid collectors and investors out there, I would expect a short term rush on those models. I, personally, am going to exercise restraint.

The book, after a rather cliched and disappointing beginning, finally demonstrated that Mr. Harris has a finely honed (sorry, couldn't resist) sense of humanity's dark side. It will be very interesting to see if Hollywood makes the movie true to the book, as they did with "Silence of the Lambs". If they do, I'll be mightily surprised.

Harpy and Civilian? What a stragne choice. Any of the Pro Culinaire series or at lease C17 Catcherman (the folding filet knife) would be more appropriate.

Thanks, tepstein, I'll have to add this book to my reading list.

"A census taker once tried to test me... I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti."
One of my all-time favorite flicks...

From what I've heard, "Hannibal" is kind of dissapointing, but I'll have to see for myself...Lecter first appeared in the Thomas Harris novel "Red Dragon" (also was made into a movie called "manhunter") which is an awsome read, better than Silence of the Lambs, though Lambs was a much better movie than "manhunter" was...
