A while back, Don and I decided we'd try a collaboration.
Here's what we came up with...
Blade is 10" of clay quenched W2, by me, and the
outstanding mounts, and crotch walnut handle are
Don's.....now possesed by Joe Richardson.....

I like everything about this knife. It's beautifully proportioned, and has a great shape. The handle looks to be contoured just right.

Joe's a lucky guy, and a good judge of knives and makers.

You two are too much. Congrats all.

Nothing more to add, except: lovely wood on that handle!

Kind regards,

Jos

I handled this one Thursday when I was at Don's and its a fantastic piece. I was surprised it made it back from chicago.

Bill

All that and more. Just impeccable.

Lovely wood. Good walnut is the richest look, in my opinion.

Coop

Bill, it was spoken for before Chicago. It went there, just to see Coop :D

This was a good project. Russ left a beautiful blade here and I tried not to mess it up!
Missouri makers, Missouri wood and a Missouri knife nut :p

Thanks for the good words, folks!

VERY nice!! The funny part is that it looks to me like each of you was kinda trying to riff off of the other guy for this project. The knife kind of has an kinda Hanson blade and an kinda Andrews guard and handle.:D

If you two keep it up, you could have a future in knife making. It's good to see a couple of newbies making such nice progress.

And now on the serious side...that is one heck of a fine knife and everything has already been said so I'll just agree.

It does not surprise me one bit that Joe snagged that one also and in fact I bet he was at the shop several times just to make sure he got it.

Slept outside in the woods a few nights, Paul. ;)

My timing was good on this project, and I am thankful. Russ and Don decided on this late last year, I believe. They were nice enough to invite me out when Russ came down to Don's to take his MS performance test this spring. Russ had the completed blade with him at that time.

Since they had kept this under wraps, I expressed an interest and here we are today. Don & I selected a nice piece from his stash of Missouri Ozarks black walnut, and Don finished it up this summer in time to take to Chicago for Coop to shoot.

This Show-Me State collaboration turned out wonderful, as you would expect from these two Missouri Masters. I appreciate their talents and their ability to comfortably work together to make this happen.

Coop's montage captures it very well:

Just a beautiful piece in every respect. I'm with Coop on the walnut - just as good as it gets. Hats off to two great makers and congrats to Joe!
