I snagged this sweet 6 1/4" bowie from Don prior to the show since I knew I couldnt attend, besides, Danbo likes being the tallest man at the show, and I didn't want to make him feel small.
Anyway, many people know Don's work, but think he makes only high-end folders, and forges some amazing damascus, but, he does make a few fixed blades each year, as we are finding out, and I was lucky enough to snag this one.
6 1/4" forged carbon steel blade, very graceful grinds, wicked sharp, amazing bark ivory handle, the barkiest bark Ive ever seen, with 5 18k gold pins, the oval guard is his trademark mosaic damascus, and, I guess I dont need to point out that clean, vivid hamon. His F&F is truly right up there with the best mastersmiths, in fact, in my opinion, a lot of MS's could learn from Don. I would look for Don's fixed blades to really make a splash in the very near future once people realize how good they are and after winning best fixed blade, well, the time may have already come.
And, just for kicks, my other Hanson fixed blade, a sweet 5" fighter.
