On the Stoned Ivory thread in post 91 Coop said the following, in Da Vinci Code style:

Rob, by the way... I have ONE word for you: CLACK!!
You know what I am talking about. (NEXT thread for Rob.)

Coop

He had this knife from Don and was about to send it to me.

A little while back Don let me know my requested "folder spot" was here and asked what I had in mind.
Something different, serious but fancy. Cool shape and dimension in the blade, Mammoth, a hunk of blade showing off even when the knife is closed. That was my request. We talked through ideas then, as usual, I do my best to leave him alone to create in his unique style. I must admit I always throw in a late zinger of an idea no matter how hard I try to control myself. :o

By the way, when I said Mammoth I meant Ivory. I think he heard size as well as handle material! :D

Well, Don started referring to the knife as Giant Folder. Then Coop sends a teaser with "CLACK". I get it guys, I have knives that make the "bank vault" lock up sound and I have big folders. NOT! This thing is a beast. And there's a reason Coop used all caps when writing "CLACK".

I'll post pics of this knife that demonstrate it's scale this evening. For now, I'll just say...It's big and it's serious.

Here are Coop's great shots. Wonderful results with the details captured. Ivory of the Gods, hunks o' carved gold, bombastic mosaic, carved bolsters to the front and the rear, spine inlays (inside and out) from the sea.

Don, thank you so very much!!! This was a fun endeavor with a fantastic outcome. Another outstanding Hanson in our collection that my wife and I love!

Rob, that's a great (pun intented) knife. I love the mammoth ivory and the steel is real cool.

Congrats to you and Don on this one. Just for the fun of it. I estimate that this one is somewhere between 10 and 12 inches (and closer to the latter).

Marcel

:thumbup::thumbup: What a fantastic piece, a true work of art!! Congrats!! :)

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.
Marcel; OAL is 10.25 inches. It's not quite a 12 incher but it's got girth going for it :D

Here are a few pics I took to provide some perspective. Not CQP (Coop Quality Pics) but demonstrates scale.

Rob,

Congratulations, that's a man sized folder. I love big folders.

Don seems to have an unlimited supply of beautiful mammoth ivory to go along with his great damascus.

Rob that is just fantastic

I am not a folder person but that knife could convert me

Thanks, Rob! Always a pleasure working with you, always!

Thanks for all the comments, folks. This was a fun project for sure :D

Gorgeous! Breathtaking! Spectacular! Stupendous! That is the craziest looking damascus I have ever seen- in a good way.

WOW...I'd have to say that is one of my all time favorites of DHIII....and there is an incredible selection to choose from!

Just stunning, and Coop's pictures are too.

Wow - those comparison shots really show the size of this thing. Very cool piece - eye-popping damascus and stunning ivory - congrats!

Nice Milgauss, too.

Thanks everyone for sharing in our fun and recognizing the incredible talent of both Don and Jim.

Roger, thanks for the nod on the knife and the clock. It was a bear landing that watch for reasonable coin when I acquired it almost 2 years ago. Love that crazy looking design.

Joe, this is the kind of folder that a big fixed blade dude like you would enjoy! The knife reminds me of this guy  Check out the bling he's wearing!
