Uncle,
When will you get a Hanuman khukuri in? I wan't one 3/8 or 5/16 thick.
I've always liked this khukuri. I love the fullered blade and all the extras.

I fell in love with the hanuman ever since i saw it in the catalog long ago.I still think it is one of the best looking khuks. The only reason i can think it didnt sell well is because of the slightly higher price tag.

NOooooooooooo!!!!
Uncle can these be a special order item? If so how much would it cost? Do we need to pay in full ahead of time or just a partial payment? If you can I may be interested. I would love to have Bura make one.

Hanuman is not a carry knife. There's no frog on the scabbard. It is a sash carry khukuri and few people wear sashes anymore. If you make a rig of some kind and try to carry it the little utility tools fall out of the scabbard and are lost. Although I have never heard of a handle failure the design is a partial tang which is just not as strong and secure as the tapered full length tang. Hanuman is really not user friendly and I think this is the main reason it did not sell very well.

But we can special order a Hanuman from BirGorkha if somebody wants one and now that advertising does not eat up a quarter to half our revenues and with the power equipment available in BirGorkha we can make and sell the knife for considerably less that we used to have to charge.

:
How about making Hanuman full tanged and put a little brass topi on His head for a keeper?

I still think that if the results of the Hanuman Special had of been correct that it would have been a Top Seller!!

The Hanuman Specials were Hanuman Handles on WW II blades and were supposed to be Hanuman blades on WW II handles. Now that's a Knife!!

Which one of the four are you referring to Yvsa?

Handle / Blade

1)Hanuman / Hanuman ( Hanuman )
2)Hanuman / WWII ( Hanuman Spl. as recd.)
3)WWII / Hanuman ( Hanuman Spl. as ordered.)
4)WWII / WWII ( WWII )

I think we need to get sets made up of numbers one through four, each set handled from the same piece of wood, blades by the same kami, and scabbard by the same sarki.

( John Powell, you ought to be ashamed of yourself, or at least put on a bib to keep the drool off the keyboard. )

( Oh, and Terry, IIRC there's a name for people that are into black leather even if I can't remember what it is just now. Last night the forum's literati were discussing the Bard, and now tonite, it's taken a turn toward the Divine Marquis ( de Sade ). Hmm... that must tell something about this forum, but I don't think I want to know. )

Hey everybody - jest teezn!

# 2 & 3 Bro.

The WW II handles with Hanuman blades as ordered is one I think that would have been a best seller.
I believe our older brother said he wasn't gonna try that again?

I think the Hanuman handle with the WWII blade would be a winner as well.

But then again, if Yvsa thinks the other way works well, then I guess both hybrids have merit.

Until you make the Hanuman user friendly and get rid of the sash carry it will never sell well. Who wants a knife that is nearly impossible to carry and one that has a bunch of little tools that love to fall out and get lost? And if we do this is it really a Hanuman or some other khukuri with a monkey head on the pommel?

Khukuri FAQ

Bill,

Can you give any tips for sash carry? I want to make a sash for Brita to carry her Sirupati. Any hints about sash construction or wearing of the sash?

Blues, Yvsa and I both have the Hanuman Spl. with Hanuman handle and long WWII blade ( OAL18" ).

I think I said it before, but when something goes thump in the night, when I wake up fully I'll look down and wonder how Hanuman got into my left hand and the 41 mag mdl 58 into my right.

Rusty,

I sure hope your 12" Sirupati is close by as well!

I remember your speaking of the Hanuman handled 18" WWII, and if Uncle finds another, I want first dibs. (Or a Hanuman handled Malla.)

Can't give any help, Howard, except to say you'll need something to secure the scabbard to the sash. Buttonholes in the sash and buttons attached to the scabbard are one way.

Khukuri FAQ

Hanuman gone...

Thats O.K. I got mine.

I'm not surprised that not many are sold. It is not the most practical khukuri/sheath setup like Bill saids. Sure its comfortable but why risk giving Hanuman a splitting head ache.

However it is what every khukuri lover eventually wants. It is a very unique knife style that would be extremely difficult to find. Maybe special order batches of Hanuman khukuri's are the way to go.

Ask Rusty what unique qualities Hanuman has.

Will

I lost my Hanuman! Yes! I have the blade which is a dui chira and I have the handle as well ... but i have reshaped it's handle ... no more monkey's head. I personally don't call it as Hanuman any more ... I call it as Assamese Model which is refering more to it's dui chira shaped blade. No more Hanuman identity in it! That's what I meant by losing my Hanuman!

Pakcik Bill.
I guess ... what Yvsa & Terry wants is the Hanuman dui chira shaped blade ... you can always fit it with different shape of handle, traditional type of scabbard, a Karda and a Chakma only! One other thing is that you can always call it with a different name such as Assamese Model or Whatevername Model in order not to confuse it with the old Hanuman Model.

Yvsa, Terry, Forumites.
Please do correct me if I'm wrong!

NEPAL HO!

Rusty.

Fit the blade to a python's head shaped handle ... and ... we may name it as Python Model!

NEPAL HO!
