Hanwei blades

Welcome to Bladeforums!

Which products are you looking at? I understand their swords are OK. I have a small folder that's very nice.

Ive never purchased a historical blade before and I dont know much about what to look for honestly.

Chinese company with a good reputation. Mostly known for swords and similar products but are looking into making more knives in the future. I was in their booth at BLADEshow in Atlanta this year and spoke, via translater, with their owner (or was it CEO, not sure). I hade a quick look at some of their knives made with ATS34 and they were really nice from a design and fit'n finish point of view. I dont know how they handle heat treat etc but I have a feeling they know what they are doing.

They might be there for the 2009 show also so if you are in the neigorhood or just cant stay away for other reasons, you can check them out. And show up for beer in the pit after of course.

Hannwei quality and reputation has improved significantly in recent times - their CEO seems to have embraced the concept of QA. I believe some of their wares are made in collaboration with reputable USA designers. Beware of online specials - they may be seconds, rejects or Hanwei knockoffs

I have an interesting Bonestag handled Sheffield folder. It's a one handed opener(that's a bit stiff)with a button lock.Stainless Wharncliffe with some tastefully done etched bolsters.Overall build quality is excellent and it's a curious hybrid between Traditional&Modern styles that works well. About 4.25" closed with skeleton construction. If this is a representative of their knives, then I can certainly recommend them. They do a worthwhile looking Trench Knife as well....

Hanwei makes decent, functional blades. I've got a couple of their swords, which are good, and I've handled their butterfly "knives" (traditional Kung Fu weapons, like big d-guard bowies) and was impressed by those.
