I know tha this particular line of swords is very good in the Japanese style section, but what about this line of swords? Would these rapiers stand maybe some dueling(not a lot just some), and some target cutting? Thanks for the help, Charles.

Hello,

I have a Pappenheimer Rapier and have been sparring with her for about a month. It is a little hilt heavy but handles well. I has a small basket though. I would recommend it only if you have small hands. I bought it second hand from a gentleman who had to sell it because sparring with it was tearing his hands up. He sparred with it for about 5 months. It is a little scratched up but no other major damage. A fellow student had the spiral swept hilt and raves about it. I have handled it and it is much lighter and has more hand room. The hilts will stand up to weekly sparring. The blades will fatique and have to be replaced every so often. Hope this helps. Good Bouts and Good Luck.

Thanks Jen, excactly what I was hoping to hear. So you say the swept hilt rapiers are good? Because the one with the metal wrap hilt was the one I was looking at. Has your blade ever chipped because of sparring or cutting stuff? Thanks again for the help, Charles.

I use a double wide epee blade not the live blade. So I cannot speak for that blade. I still have that blade. They are interchangeable on mine. The live blade dry handled well but I have yet to try to cut with it. If I get a chance I will swap the blades out and cut a little and do some tests. Sorry. Hope that helps.

So on the rapier models you can switch out the sharp blade that came with it, for the Epee blade or the Schlaeger blade? I hope thats right because then I wouldnt have to buy fencing foil, I could just swith out the blades. I'm intersted in buying theswept hilt rapier style one that CAS offers. That may help in you telling me if there interchangeable. Thanks again for the help.

I ordered mine through the designer at www.swordplayalliance.com. I don't know if they had to make any modifications to the blades or not. But they are interchangeable with the hilt. I can swap the blades at any time depending on what I what to do with it. Just a pair of pliers and some elbow grease. Good Luck.

Jennifer describes the Pappenheimer perfectly when she says it's "hilt heavy" but don't let that throw you off either. I've been fighting a Hanwei Pap for over a year now and I much prefer it to the swept hilt.
My group fights blunts. That is to say, the standard rapier blade with the edges and tips blunted to reduce the chance of injury and the chinese blades last much longer than the ones that come out of India. (Deepeeka, Windlass, all same sam) The Indian blades fight really well, they're faster and have a nice but not excessive whip to them, but because we fight blunts, and the edges must be smoothed each week, blades wear out a little faster, and the Indian blades wear out about twice as fast as the chinese.
