I've got a $200ish dollar budget. I want a sword to use, soft targets mostly, maybe some bamboo from time to time. I'm looking at Hanwei's. There are several that catch my eye but I can't decide on what will be best for me. I like the review of the practical XL light. But the "blood groove" is questionable for me. But I don't want a super heavy/not fun or easy to wield weapon either. What to buy?? The XL, XL light? or go the practical plus route and forget the XL at all? Any suggestions welcome

I'd look at the Cheness swords - the SGC series made of 9260 steel are very interesting and for $250 i haven't seen anything of comparable quality. You might look at the Sword Buying Guide online - google it for the url address - there are a lot of helpful reviews and a ton of info for finding low cost katanas. Happy hunting! Let us know what you find...

Also might give the Tactical series a try. Similar to the Raptor series, but not the traditional construction. Heard some good things about those.
