1) I love the useful blade styles on this med stockman (Clip, sheepfoot and pen blades all serve a purpose in my modern world);
2) Fit and finish are nice and tight;
3) The best feature though, that CV steel! Couple of minutes reprofiling the edge with a 1000 grit water stone, a few strokes on the strop and POW! Superdarnsharp!

I've really gotten back into the slips, but this is my first CV and I'm grooving on it even more than ATS34 (S&M) or D2 (Queen). Sharp and easy to maintain, like a pocket knife should be.

I agree 100%, few knives give as much satisfaction as a sharp, well made, carbon steel slipjoint. Case, Old Timer, Boker... take your pick, when you get the right one in your hands, it tends to stay there. Welcome to the club.

You got that right! The "32" medium stockman is probably my favorite Case pattern. I rarely go anywhere without my Chestnut bone CV 63032!

Just got my first Case CV trapper today !

I must say I am impressed. Excellent steel, a real pleasure to use.

And so easy to get that edge.

This one is going in the EDC box, without a doubt, next to my SAKs and Stockmen......

Just out of interest, why do so many people like the Stockman pattern???

this is changing the subject a bit, I know, but I have just been looking at some old catalogues from Sheffield and even back in the 1930s, the Stockman seemed to be one of the most popular patterns.

I carry a couple of different stockman knives from time to time, with clip, spey and sheepfoot blades, an old greenbone Case 6347, and a 70's Case delrin 6318. They are easy to grip, fit the hand, and the variety of blades is quite useful. I have several equal end cattle knives with similar blades. I think the cattles are prettier, but they don't lay in the pocket as well. If you really use a slipjoint knife a lot, it's hard to beat a stockman. I can see it being a top choice from my day to day experience.

Glad you guys like 'em so far!
A nice Case CV is my favorite as far as slipjoints are concerned. My favorite knife ever, without a doubt, is a CV trapper (chestnut bone, 2000).
Peace.
Alex.

Chestnut Bone CV's rule! I just picked up a 1998 6292 pattern "Texas Jack" the other day. It's my fifth Chestnut CV. They're getting harder to find, but still not TOO expensive.

I have retired my SAK after about 5 years because I dropped it and broke the magnifier off the end / I liked this magnifier but have found a good replacement for this v------ something. I replaced it with a Case 63032cv that has dark red bone handle on one side and a lighter red brown on the other one dot under the USA (think it's a 99) that I bought on ebay. Let me tell you this is one hell of a knife / sharpens on the crock stick 1 2 3 and cuts through anything. Just right for the pocket a little over 3.5 inches. I can't say enough for a 32 - fit and finish outstanding. I am glad the handles did not match up or otherwise I would never used it. :thumbup: Try one they are great!

My favorite whittler is the 6318, I like the fact that Case makes several models in diffent sizes for different sized hands. It is sharp and easy on my hands. I noticed that likem mentioned in his post that his SAK broke when he dropped it. If that V stands for Victorinox, it has an unlimited lifetime warranty and great customer sevice, you may wish to send it in.

Three words for this year:

CV RED BONE!!!

Guess I'll be able to try a couple new patterns with CV at Case with this line.

I got a 61048 cv in dark red bone in the mail yesterday. It is a very nice knife. It is always good to see Case offer more of a selection in cv.

OK Bartleby it is Victorinox and I think the model is explorer. I will try to find some info on customer service. Thanks!

No problem, likem. If nothing else you can use it as a back-up for your Case. Red Bone in CV sounds cool, I need to check those out when I get to the knife store.

Hi RLR, What is your and everybody else's opinion of the Case 6318?
I like the spey blade over the pen. I like the rounded bolsters over the
squared.
Question: Is the 63032 3 5/8" Is the 6318 3 1/2"? I keep getting
contrary answers in various websites.

Thanks.

3 5/8" FOR THE 032, AND 3 1/2" FOR THE 18 PATTERN. These sizes are generally correct, with very minor variations.
I agree that the rounded bolsters are more pocketable. Your question was worthy of a new thread.

I like the #18 alot. I have a 6318 and a 3318 and usually have one of them in my pocket. I also have a 6232 texas jack and I do like it but the round bolsters of the # 18 are easier on the pocket. Plus the first really good knife I was had was a 3318 given to me by my Grandpa.

The round bolsters are easiest on my hand. I started out with the Uncle Henry 897, and I think this has influenced the way I think a knife should feel. On the Case knives, I usually adjust the kicks on the spey blade so they ride low when closed, like on the UH897. I find that handle comfort is the most important aspect of what makes a good knife. It is also the most subjective because of variations in hand sizes and shapes (what I like isn't going to fit others as well). As waynorth says, this would make an interesting new thread on its own.
