Hey folks, figured this would be a good time of year to post a few of the Ellenville-Wawarsing 4th of July knives. Every year there is a celebration in Ellenville during the 4th of July week, both for the 4th itself and for "Ellenville Days". Schrade donated around 300 or so knives annually for this event, many times using knife patterns that were made at that time for some other SFOs, scrimshaw series', etc.. All were serialized. They were aquired by the event organizers (Chamber of Commerce possibly? Can't quite recall who), and sold as fundraisers to local folks and given to local bigwigs. Whatever was left over was usually auctioned off. I don't have them all, but I'm working on it, very slowly. Here are a few:

1988 barlow, you might recognize this one from the Amex Presidents Series. This one's actually #000 for you sample afficionados. Came in a brown "Limited Edition" box.

1993 296Y, this one also commemorated the tenth anniversary of the parade.

1997 LB7, came in the box with sheath. This was also the knife and box used for the Enterprise Steamer Hose Co., Walden Commemorative, also put out in 1997.

1999 296SC, depicts a barge on the D&H Canal, which ran from the Delaware to the Hudson River ( passing through Ellenville) in the 1800's. I've got one with the etch around here somewhere, but this will have to do for now.

2001 515SC, The famous Boy with the Boot, also used as a Christmas knife.

2004 Schrade Walden peanut, also used as one of the Cigar Box Classic knives, and sadly, the last year for these knives. (I believe Canal Street made one for 2005, a swing-guard, but I'm not sure if any were produced after that).

Have a happy, safe 4th everyone!!!

Happy 4th to you as well Eric, extended to everyone else on the Forum.
Here's my 99 Ellenville Wawarsing 296SC. Seems like mine missed the serial numbering.

Happy 4th Eric, and all who visit here!
I am curious about the boy with the boot? Is that a local story?

Thanks Codger! Interesting mystery. Have a happy 4th!

A very happy 4th of July to you in Canada, Australia and wherever you might be. I know that it is supposed to be a holiday celebration specific to the United States, but the spirit of the celebration is, to me anyway, universal among freedom loving people. Yes, it is the anniversary of our declaration of independence from England, but it is so much more. Honoring the efforts and sacrifices of ancestors down to our fathers and sons. Honoring the very concept of national self determination. Happy 4th of July to you all.

And happy 17th birthday to my daughter, Jennifer.

I ran out of daylight for this one so I had to use one of my older scans, hope the etch shows up.

It was a 2004 4th of July commemorative that got me interested in collecting Schrades and led me to this forum. So I have many things to celebrate this Independence Day.

Nice Russell, looks like they had a hard time gettin a complete package that year!:D:D Thanks for the list Larry:thumbup:

Here's another super patriotic knife I thought I might include on this thread. This knife, like Eyegor's 2004, is what really got me into Schrades due to the amount of research I had done trying to find if it was a legit SFO. (It wasn't).
It's apparently a one off custom ivory rehandle, but I think it's a beauty:

BTW, I updated a couple of the blurry shots above.

I found the artist concepts for the Wawasing knives listed except for the railroad and added Eric and Rusty's pictures from here at BF to the linked in pdf for viewing and comparing.
Let me know if anyone has a picture of the railroad edition I'd love to add it.

Have a great rest of the week.

I'll start working on the Xmas knives made for Ellenville. 1993-2002
Ellenville and Wawarsing, NY are bordering towns and the plant in Ellenville can be seen from Wawasing.

Larry, I have the '96 NIB w/paperwork but pics not great. The locomotive has the number "8" on it and some illegible writing. I was able to grab it for $16.55USD all-in and consider it a great score.

I need to get a better camera. When I do I will take better shots if you still want/need them.

A bump to wish you guys a glorious Schrade 4th of July, 2012. And my daughter a good 21st birthday.

Mike,
Thanks for the bump and remembering Schrade's connection to the village, the town, and the 4th of July Committee. Although I only came on the scene at the very end, it was a great example of corporations supporting their local communities. I know many companies do this but it is becoming harder and harder to find it on the scale that Schrade showed its local support. Hershey is the only one that comes to mind easily. CSC carries on the tradition best it can by donating knives to various community organizations to support their fund raising efforts. To be clear, these are not "4th of July" knives. They are examples of whatever run CSC is doing at the time. They are always beauties though. For that I thank them as well.
