Thanks all for the Birthday wishes. Much appreciated...
We left last Thursday, and just got back from our first week of hunting. We had a great time, but it was time to come back home
for a couple days to get things done in town.
We got into a small herd of 20 elk on two different days. Two small spike bulls, and the rest were all cows, which is just fine with me
because typically they eat better than big bulls, but I couldn't get closer than 40 yards. I'm confident in my shooting at that distance, but
I never felt comfortable with the shots. There was either brush or small trees in the way, or if they were in the clear, they were turned away
at an angle that would be fine with a rifle, but not with a bow...
I think they knew exactly what they were doing lol... Oh well. We still have four more weeks of season left. The next few days we are going
to hunt close to home. There is a large herd of elk that hang out in an area about 10 miles from our house. I just gotta find them.
The weather has turned here. It is supposed to be cloudy, and cooler with a chance of showers, so we will be back out at zero dark thirty in the morning.
