And now the rest of the story.
I wanted to do this thing since the Easter Becker. It has proven to be a study in Murphy's Law. The stars I used as a mask to paint the scales turned out to have a glue on them that could hold up Thrill's pickup truck. When I tried to remove them they delaminated, leaving the glue and a sheet of paper behind that had to be carefully scraped off without damaging the paint underneath. I watched YouTube videos on how to make an American Flag look 3D and followed the teachings -- except instead of 3D mine looked like I laid it down in wet paint -- which required wet sanding the blade on... yesterday afternoon! There will be no close-ups of this thing shown.

BUT...I did get a flag-painted BK-4 posted. :D

Have a good one everybody!

Thanks for sharing, it looks pretty good! I used to airbrush a lot and flags were a tough thing to learn. Honestly, you have a good start, but you might need some black in there so you have a highlight and a shadow.

Yeah, that's where I went wrong. The "highlight" near the tip is actually white DuraCoat left over from the disaster. I removed the black and ran out of time to retry it. It looked so easy when the pro did it on YouTube!

Ha ha you did not let us down K9. My holiday is now complete. Nice work as always. :)

Happy Independence Day K9! very festive and very cool. thanks for sharing

Nice piece of equip K9, after this day do some testing and see how long the coating will last.

Not a bad rentention, if you don`t batton wood it will last a good 6 months of macheting everything.

But I still like my BK-2 with paper towel apple vinegar patina. gave some "bubbles", looks like it has a texture but is pretty slick. Whem i get my golden activated I will show pics of it.

Looking good K9!
I knew you would have something cool for us today lol. I like those scales, looking good bro!
I am DIGGING that flintlock! Repro? Original? Caliber?

It's a repro. The small town I live in happened to be an overnight bivouac for the Continental Army marching from Boston to NY State and eventually Yorktown. Lead by Rochambeau. Our claim to fame... :D Our high school and middle school are still named for him.
In 1976 the town went all out for a celebration, because it was close to our 300th year. They had a lot of reenactments, all the males in town had to sport beards (I beat them to it) or be "arrested". One of the things the committee did was commission a bunch of these period-correct flintlocks to be used in a number of the events, then auctioned them off when the celebrations were done. My dad lived in a colonial home at the time and bought one to put over the fireplace mantle.
I don't remember the caliber. Big. He gave it to me when he sold the house and moved into assisted living.

Just to complete the answer to Thrill's question, the "caliber" measures .677. It's a smoothbore musket.

Wow, great work! Absolutely stunning!
Now you just need to do antother one with the Gadsden Flag and you'll be set for the the 4th and Veteran's Day!
ooohh, maybe you could coat a 1217 for Veteran's Day.

I figgered it was high .60s or maybe even a .72

I would so pull out some round ball and patches and take that to a range! The front-stuffers are FUN to shoot!

Now I'm waiting to see the Halloween BK2....why the 2? Because it's The BEAST!
