On this day in 1867, the British North American Provinces (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, & Nova Scotia) united to form the Dominion of Canada.

This little pen knife was made by Boker in 1907. It depicts the provincial shields as they existed at that time, from left to right in order of joining the federation. Some of the shields have changed design since then. Alberta and Saskatchewan, previously part the Northwest Territories, just joined as provinces a few years earlier in 1905. New Foundland remained a British colony until 1949 and thus is the current province not depicted on the knife.

Thank-you to everyone for your responses. I am especially happy to share this with my fellow Canadians. I wish all of my American friends a very happy 4th of July. All the best.
